New York, NY, March 15, 2013 - Continuing its 165-year history of offering the Best, the Only and the Unexpected, Hammacher Schlemmer introduces The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane, a device that mounts to a bike and projects a laser-defined bike lane on the street to alert automobiles to your presence.

The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane as a high-precision auto-focus lens and 5-megapixel sensor built into the pen that scan letters, recipes, or important documents as crisp, clear 2048 x 1536 pixel images.

About the size of a deck of cards, the unobtrusive device mounts to a bicycle's seat post and displays two 5-milliwatt red laser lines that create a 6'-long lane that begins at the seat and extends well past the rear wheel.

"The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane provides riders with the comfort of their own personal bike lane that automobile drivers can see during predawn rides or nighttime cycling," explained Hammacher Schlemmer's General Manager Fred Berns.

The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane provides motorists with a visual indicator of a cyclist's riding width that is visible under headlights or streetlights.

"The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane can be seen from up to a mile away, allowing approaching motorists to prepare for a cyclist's presence and move over well in advance," explained Mr. Berns.

The Cyclist's Virtual Safety Lane is housed in shock-resistant and weatherproof polycarbonate, its universal mount attaches to any frame, and it comes with an additional taillight with five blinking red LEDs.
