This is the 5'-tall plush North American bull elk (Cervus canadensis) meticulously crafted entirely by skilled artists' hands to a convincing realism. Requiring up to 40 man-hours to complete, each elk is created from 80 individual pieces that are made from a custom-designed fabric "hide" hand sewn using an "inside out" stitching method that minimizes visible seams. Carefully situated fabric stuffing is sewn in place to replicate a realistic, lifelike musculature beneath the surface, notably its powerful hindquarters, as well as the other familiar details of the animal, such as the shaggy brown mane that extends below its body to its rump. Delicate airbrushing brings out subtle color differences in the animal's coat, replicating the grey-brown hue of a male wintering in the mountains.
