Product Story

This is the faithful production of a 1940 Industrial Newsboy bicycle, used by the U.S. military for messenger duty on bases during World War II. It is made in New York City by Worksman Cycles, the original 114 year-old bicycle manufacturer who supplied thousands of Industrial Newsboy models to the U.S. military after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Its fully-lugged, double top-tube steel frame is meticulously hand-brazed the same way Worksman has made Newsboy frames since 1940 providing today's rider the same reliable durability demanded by the war effort over 70 years ago. The 24"-long handlebars, chainguard, and fenders are made by Wald while the hard rubber grips are made by Hunte-Wilde the same two manufacturers that supplied Worksman during the war. A coaster brake built into its single-speed rear hub provides confident stops while riding on its wheels' period authentic 11-gauge spokes, steel clincher rims, and 26"-diam. tires. Updated for modern riders, the 10" foam-padded seat retains the classic double-sprung design with a rear grab bar. 72" L x 8" W x 36" H. (46 lbs.)
