This is the faithful reproduction of a 1940 Industrial Newsgirl, one of the several civilian models used by the U.S. military for messenger duty on domestic bases during World War II. It is made in New York City by Worksman Cycles, the 114 year-old bicycle manufacturer who supplied thousands of Industrial Newsgirl models to the U.S. military after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. True to the original, this model uses a reproduction of its fully lugged, hand-brazed 1940 sloping double top-tubed, steel frame that provided the reliable durability demanded by the war effort. The 24"-long handlebars, chainguard, and fenders are made by Wald while the hard rubber grips are made by Hunte-Wilde¿the same two manufacturers that supplied Worksman during the war. A single-speed coaster brake built into its rear hub provides confident stops while riding on its wheels' period authentic 11-gauge spokes, steel clincher rims, and 26"-diam. tires. Updated for modern riders, the 10" foam-padded seat retains the classic double-sprung design with a rear grab bar. 72" L x 8" W x 36" H. (46 lbs.)
