Product Story

This is the watch constructed with a cross-section from a genuine nickel-iron meteorite that landed in the Gobi desert. Forming the watch's face, the cross-section's Widmanstätten pattern (long intersecting bands of kamicite and taenite crystals that form over millions of years of cooling) reveal the most likely source of origin to be an M-type asteroid lying between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Made in Germany, the watch works as a precise lunar phase chronometer for either the northern or southern hemisphere, displaying the lunar cycle using a 1/2"-diam. window at the Noon hour's position that simulates the Earth's shadow to depict each minute during an entire synodic month. A strontium aluminate coating illuminates the Moon, hour and minute hands, and each hour marker. A date hand indicates the day of the month as it sweeps around a 31-day dial built into the face. Revealed by the exhibition caseback, the watch's 26-jewel Swiss automatic movement ensures reliable timekeeping with 28,800 bph, requiring only the motion of the hand to keep the watch powered. Genuine leather band fits wrists 5"-8 1/2" in circumference. Case 1.69" diam. x .49" thick. (2 oz.) For Free Shipping on this product only, use code FSW12277.
