Product Story

This is the framed collection of 18 stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service that honor the soldiers, sailors and leaders who served in World War II. These mint stamps commemorate famous figures (such as the 3-cent Gen. Patton stamp issued in 1953), branches of service (the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and Marines from 1945's "Armed Forces Series"), slogans (1942's 3-cent eagle with a "Win the War" banner) and other symbols of freedom, such as the "Trio of Defense," a 1940 series promoting national preparedness through the Torch of Enlightenment, the Statue of Liberty and a 90-millimeter anti-aircraft gun. The issue dates range from 1940 to 1971, with four of the stamps being issued during the war itself by Franklin Roosevelt, a dedicated philatelist who personally approved (and occasionally designed) stamps during his administration. The green 1-cent stamp called "Four Freedoms," issued in February of 1943, features a torch-bearing Liberty with the famous words from FDR's 1941 State of the Union address: "Freedom of speech and religion, from want and fear." The stamps have been professionally mounted and hung in a black wood frame. Includes certificate of authenticity. 14" H x 16" W (2 lbs.)
