Product Story

This is the collection of Mark Twain classics reproduced exactly as they first appeared in print. Published by literary preservationists Charles Winthrope & Sons, known for their faithful and meticulous reproductions, the texts replicate every detail from their first editions, from the 19th-century illustrations and ornate endpapers to the low-relief, gilded designs on the bindings. The 15-volume library ranges from Twain’s first book, 1867’s The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and Other Sketches, through the posthumous The Mysterious Stranger: A Romance, released in 1916 and includes well-known classics such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (see Hammacher.com for full list). Each book includes a tipped-in essay by a Twain scholar explaining that title’s history and context. When the library is assembled in order on a shelf, their protective dust jackets form a panoramic scene of the Mississippi as depicted in Mark Twain's books. Includes three sculptural book ends showing a bust of Twain, Tom Sawyer and friends whitewashing Aunt Polly’s fence, and Huck and Jim lighting out for the Territory. (2 lbs.)
