Using electrolytic action instead of traditional chemical-polish abrasion, this tarnish remover bathes away tarnish from oxidized silver without removing any of the underlying metal. Simply place the 6" x 8" cleaning plate in a non-porcelain sink of hot water, add the activator, and immerse the tarnished metal. Tarnish dissolves and transfers to the cleaning plate, which lasts indefinitely and rinses clean under the tap. Non-toxic and harmless to precious gems, the tarnish remover cleans copper, quality brass, bronze, stainless steel, silver, and gold. Includes 1 lb. of activator; use 1 tbsp. per 1 quart of water. Not for use with porcelain sinks. 6" W x 8" L. (3 oz.)

Silver plate cleaner is ok
from Rochester, NY
The plate itself is very small. Doesn't lend itself to my larger pieces despite the instructions saying only part needs to be in contact with the quicksilver plate. Did a great job on the silverware pieces: mine have intricate designs that were very hard to polish this took care of it easily. Recommend for flatware only.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It Does Work!
By Flair Boy
from Halifax, NS
The product is used in your stainless steel sink. When the correct solution is mixed the product will produce great results, with very little elbow grease. Have a toothbrush available to ensure complete cleaning of hard-to-reach surfaces that have had the oxidation loosened by the chemical reaction.
Easy silver cleaner
from Alberta Canada
I use boiling water and keep it hot on the stove-top in a ceramic casserole dish. The action easily cleans off the tarnish. The secret to success (for me) is boiling distilled water. Once it cools the cleaning action is slower.

Absolutely the best silver polisher I've ever used. Easy, quick, gorgeous results.
works but not as well as my traditional

Will only clean a small amount at a time before the water cools too much, the process of cleaning seriously tarnished items is extremely time-consuming as successive dips and dries are required, Having tried a side by side comparison with my cream, I found the cream both easier and better. in order to clean a pitcher, you need a large amount of product in order to cover at least half of it at once.It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT not to leave the silver in the solution too long, or it acquires a white residue which then must be cleaned with traditional silver polish.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Hammacher Schlemmer Response: Thank you for your feedback. Over time your silver gets tarnished and in order for the piece to get clean, it does take time and needs to be removed layer by layer. did not work as advertised
By Gayle the Tarnish Cleaner
The product was used according to directions, but did not work at all. no tarnish was removed, as a matter of fact, the silver pieces looked worse after contact with the plate than before.

Not as easy as it appears
from Danbury, CT
I tried using it on a silver pitcher that had not been polished for over 30 years. I followed the directions closely, twice. It took off a tremedous amount of tarnish, however is not at the point I would consider using the pitcher. I intend to do it again once or wtice more to see if the remaining tarnish will come off. I spent the better part of two hours working on it the two time I used it; just got tired & decided to give it another try at a later date.

Slow and Steady . . .
from Portville, NY
I found that sink size and depth are very important as well as excellent ventilation. Boiling water is a MUST, not just hot. Make sure you have rubber gloves and/or tongs to do the lifting out of the sink. The amount of powder used per quart almost guarantees that buying another packet will be a necessity. Yes, the solution does take off tarnish, but it takes a long time even with some gentle rubbing to get it all off. Any detailing (filagree) will take a LONG time to get clean. I'm not getting more of the powder but looking for something similar that I can make myself instead to save some money.
