Using electrolytic action instead of traditional chemical-polish abrasion, this tarnish remover bathes away tarnish from oxidized silver without removing any of the underlying metal. Simply place the 6" x 8" cleaning plate in a non-porcelain sink of hot water, add the activator, and immerse the tarnished metal. Tarnish dissolves and transfers to the cleaning plate, which lasts indefinitely and rinses clean under the tap. Non-toxic and harmless to precious gems, the tarnish remover cleans copper, quality brass, bronze, stainless steel, silver, and gold. Includes 1 lb. of activator; use 1 tbsp. per 1 quart of water. Not for use with porcelain sinks. 6" W x 8" L. (3 oz.)

Even better than advertised
By Willy the Shoe
from Malvern, PA
We have many pieces of antique silver, copper, and brass. Many of them were severely tarnished as they were very difficult to hand-polish. This product took only a few minutes to set up and literally less than a minute to use. The tarnish of decades was gone. I cannot imagine ever again using any other system to polish metal!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I plan on purchasing another plate
from Chicago, IL
I thought this was just another gimmick but once I place my first piece into the solvent I couldn't believe my eyes. I will never use anything else. It cleaned the pieces very quickly but need to remember to keep adding hot water otherwise it takes longer to clean as well as additive. I plan on purchasing another one since it's smaller than what I thought.Just a great product and recommend to everyone that has silver to clean.

I needed to clean old silver tea service. Because of the curly bits I gave up. My service now looks brand new.

An effortless way to clean silver or silver plate. The plate is easy to store and fits easily in a sink or bucket. You only need a small amount of the activator powder to clean numerous articles so it lasts a long time. Great value for money.

Should have had this years ago. I cannot believe the results from severely tarnished silver.

This really works
from champaign, il
I have long looked for a way to clean my liquid silver jewelry which is a bit too delicate for most tarnish removers. This did the job and didn't harm the Native American beadwork that is incorporated in the jewelry. I also ordered the additional activator product and was disappointed to learn that I had spent way more for a bag of Arm and Hammer washing soda than it's priced in local stores. I can recommend the cleaning plate, but pass on ordering overpriced activator.
Easy silver cleaner

I use boiling water and keep it hot on the stove-top in a ceramic casserole dish. The action easily cleans off the tarnish. The secret to success (for me) is boiling distilled water. Once it cools the cleaning action is slower.

have badly tarnished silver jewelry. so I bought this to see if it would work and it worked exactly like advertised. So happy! Only drawback is that the activating powder comes in a bag that is not resealable. It would be better if it had a zipper top so you don't have to throw the bag with the directions away.

Hammacher Schlemmer Response: Thank you for your feedback. The instructions for this product suggest adding a tablespoon of lemon juice when cleaning copper, brass or bronze for best results.
