Product Story

This pea coat is faithful to the details of those worn by midshipmen in the U.S. Navy, with the same broad lapels and collar, double-breasted fronts, and large vertical pockets--ideal for keeping newly commissioned ensigns warm while on duty. Originally designed in the 19th century for sailors who climbed the masts of fully rigged ships to furl and unfurl sails, the pea coat was preferred for its close fit and mid-hip drape that provided freedom of movement without sacrificing warmth. Made from 32-oz. of thick, tightly woven melton wool with a heavily brushed nap for a smooth feel, the coat has a nylon quilted lining for optimal heat retention. Like the original pea coats, the oversized collar and lapel can be worn up to protect the ears, cheeks, and neck, and the double breasted front's overlapping layers prevent wind penetration. Updated for contemporary wear, the pea coat has a vented back, two interior pockets, and two deep outer pockets. The jacket's ten buttons are embossed with the classic fouled anchor design. Made in the U.S. Men's sizes 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50. (2 lbs.)
