Product Story

This is the driver made and used in Scotland between 1900 and 1920. Referred to as "spoons," "brassies," or "baffing spoons" by their former owners, each unique driver has been played on Scotland's bucolic greens and bear various nicks and scratches from years of tee shots and fairway drives that give each club individual character. The shafts are made from hickory, the original wood used prior to the advent of the steel shaft in 1925. Club heads are made from persimmon, ash, or apple--some with horn slips, steel or brass sole plates, or brass backweights. Each driver is restored using original techniques and materials, such as the white linen thread pulled through tar used for whipping--the string used for fastening the sheep or cow leather grips to the shaft. The driver comes in a plaid cotton sheath with its provenance and certificate of authenticity, including model details such as the maker's cleek marks, model series, and face type. All drivers are right-handed. Lofts will vary and lengths will range between 38-46".
