Product Story

Recalling the ear-flapped hats worn by World War II pilots, this aviator hat is insulated with duck down to protect the head, ears, and cheeks from frigid temperatures. Made by Canada Goose, suppliers to the National Science Foundation at Antarctica's McMurdo Station, the hat is lined with 1/2 oz. of warm, fluffy premium Canadian duck down. Each ounce of down has two million filaments that interlock to retain warm air and keep cold air out, producing three times the warmth per ounce as synthetic insulators. The durable poly-cotton outer shell resists abrasions and repels water, and the hat is trimmed with soft coyote fur that won't freeze in extreme temperatures like lesser furs. A chinstrap keeps the hat and earflaps close to the head and face during blustery winter weather. (6 1/2 oz.)

How To Determine Your Hat Size

To get the proper fit in a hat, we recommend that you measure your head to determine your proper hat size.

How to Measure Your Head
  • Use a good quality tape measure, such as those used for sewing, to achieve the most accurate measurement.
  • Wrap the measuring tape around your head. The tape should be placed where you want the hat to rest, usually 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch above the top of your ears. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, the bottom of the tape should touch your eyebrows while positioned straight around your head. Don't pull the tape too snugly or your hat will fit that tightly.
  • Once you've positioned the tape exactly where you want it, measure to the nearest one-eighth inch, or three millimeters.
  • Measure your head a second and third time to ensure accuracy.
