Unlike typical fireplace vacuums that recirculate microscopic ash particles into the air, this model's HEPA filter captures 99.97% of all airborne particulates as small as 1/3000 of a millimeter. The HEPA filter is on the intake side of the motor, preventing fine, abrasive ash particles from damaging the vacuum or being exhausted into the air you breathe. The fireplace vacuum has an 800-watt motor that quickly suctions ashes through a 5' fire-retardant aluminum hose into a 5 1/4-gallon fire-resistant steel tank. It is much easier cleaning out the fireplace with this vacuum rather than shoveling it out. It vacuums really well without leaving particles in the air. The only thing I don't like is to clean the filter when I empty it, but it has to be done every time I empty the bucket.
It makes me sad!

It was clogged to the point of not being usable in about 30 seconds. To unclog it, I had to open it up and thus defeated the HEPA filter effects.I truly wanted it to work, but alas, I fear it is no better than a good garage vacuum. Thus, I recommend you continue to use a fireplace shovel and bucket..this thing won't do anything except a final touch up...just make sure there aren't any ashes in there when you use it.

Good for intended use - cleaning our fireplace.Oddly designed handle placement around tubing - cause it to tilt. Also, I usually need to clear most ashes from fireplace first then use the vacuum - otherwise it gets too clogged. (and yes, I do have to clean the filter and cnister prior to each use).
