This is the ball-point pen that has a built-in video camera, capturing HD videos or still images with a click of its button. Ideal for use while secured in a pocket, it has a built-in 1.3 MP image sensor that captures up to five hours of AVI video at 1280 x 720 resolution and up to 20,000 JPEG images, storing either on the pen's integrated 8 GB memory (with optional time and date stamp). Its built-in color camera lens is located just above the pocket clip and its microphone is located on the side of the barrel under the pocket clip, yet both are inconspicuous enough to avoid detection. Its lithium battery provides up to two hours of power before requiring a recharge from the included USB adapter or the included AC adapter; the pen's built-in USB 2.0 port allows you to download videos when connected to a Mac or PC running Windows 7, Vista, or XP without the need for loading software. this is a perfect gift for my brother-in-law, an electrical engineer who is in charge of updating softwares and always look forward to the latest products. the best thing about it is a good looking pen that includes a camera and a USB.

Video Pen Shortcomings

On full charge the static mounting of the pen results in only 20 minutes of recording - far too little time. I need minimum of one hour running.The internal works of the pen are loose and the lens often is not in line with the hole - also can move up and down inside barrel. Not good when the video is totally black.Sometimes very difficult to ascertain if pen is on or off.

Unusable

I couldn't figure it out. The instructions were smaller than a pinhead, and there were no corresponding parts to what they said to do. No web page or email so you couldn't ask them. I am very computer and gadget friendly, but after an hour of trying I finally called HammacherS and they readily agreed to take it back. This is a reputation killer for a company like HS.

Video pen not what it's cracked up to be

This pen is difficult to use successfully. If it's in your pocket, it aims upward. It's just the way it lays in my shirt pocket. If I take it out, hold it vertically and move it around the room it does a fair job of picking up the surroundings, but then it looks like I'm recording the discussion. It doesn't do worth a hoot as far as sound quality goes. It is very easy for the audio to be unintelligable. Just two people talking at the same time, or background noise can make it impossible to hear. If it's used in a fairly closed, quiet setting it would be ok, but that's not where I have a need to use it. After six weeks between usages there was several hours gap between the correct time and the time showing on the recording, thus requiring resetting the time before each use, which is difficult and a pain. The quality of the video didn't measure up to the HD quality billing in the advertisement. And background lighting can really effect the image. I would not have bought it for the use I intended if I knew some of these things.

Good video definition. Although it records for about 60 minutes continuously, it does not remain in standby for more than a couple of minutes. This greatly reduces its usefulness when several short recordings are needed over an extended period of time.
