This is the portable radio recommended by the Red Cross for emergency preparedness. It combines several emergency tools into one handheld unit, including a radio, LED flashlight, beacon, and cell phone charging port. Also ideal for camping, the digital tuner provides clear reception of AM/FM and seven NOAA weather bands (plus alerts), its flashlight uses four bright white LEDs that switch to a red beacon for easy location, and its 5V DC port can charge a cell phone (requires adapter). A digital clock with alarm keeps accurate time. It can be powered by its built-in dynamo crank (a one-minute crank provides up to 30 seconds of cell phone use), three AAA batteries (required), or its rechargeable battery, which provides up to eight hours of operation from an 8-hour charge using the included USB cable. Weather-resistant plastic body with machined aluminum handle. 6 1/2" H x 6 1/2" W x 2 1/4" D. (1 lb.)

Very pleased with my Red Cross radio
from Plano, TX (surburb of Dallas)
I tested this little radio to be sure that all of the features worked - they did. The radio was clear and without static, the weather reports were loud and clear on two stations, the flashlight worked fine and it did charge my Iphone 4S fine. I found no problems. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought two more for my grown children. I checked them also and both functioned as they should. So, 3 of 3 all worked fine, right out of the box. My only negative comment is that they don't include (or even offer at additional charge) an AC transformer to power the radio. Also the red flashing light is practically useless in that it's so small and dim that it wouldn't make much of a signal unless someone was nearby and it was dark out. Nevertheless, it is a competent little radio and I would recommend it to anyone considering an emergency unit.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For power outages
love it, love it, love it!

I use this at home but am contemplating another for my car. With aaa batteries that last quite a while, one can listen to fm and am clearly because unlike most radios where you keep moving the tuner to find the best signal, if you want say 90.7, you move dial until you can read 90.7. Go to whichever of the 5 weather channels that comes in best.

Great radio for any emergency
The reason I have more than one Radio

The other emergency radios are junk. That's why I have different kinds.... to find a good working one.The Best Emergency Radio will stop me buying anymore because it's the way they should all be.
from Kansas City, MO
My first emergency radio used a spring to store energy to turn a dynamo to power the radio. This radio is much more efficient. You crank the dynamo to store electrical energy in batteries. Less human energy required for equivalent (better) energy storage.NOAA reception very good radio and clock seem to work well. Haven't had it long enough to judge dependability & reliability over time.
Worth the peace of mind
It's nice to know you can have communication in an emergency.
Good Radio for Difficult Times

I use the product while shaving and if bad weather occurs.
A great little radio
I just received mine and put it through some tests. It received all am/fm stations clearly and I got two weather bands for the Dallas area, also nice and clear. I like the battery power as an option and chose that over the solar power on the other model. I have several other radios with solar power and unless it's bright outside, they just don't work very well. I tested it to charge my Iphone 4S and it bumped the power up by 1% - enough to make a couple of brief calls. Thats about all I expected. I'm pleased to the point of ordering two more today for my (grown) children. It's all I expected in a small compact package.
