Hi. I use the product for eliminating junk mail from charities and banks, including my own bank statements as well as solicitations for products I don't currently have/use. It does a quick job at shredding down the papers and envelopes. A couple things worth pointing out. While it is slim, that comes at a slight cost for the motor's power and it is a true 6 page shredder. Sometimes I will do just a few pages together at a time just to not bog it down much. Also, with the wastebasket following the same slim lines, it does require emptying sooner than some larger capacity bins. It does not shred credit cards, cds, etc. as it is just for paper items. Of course it doesn't claim to shred those, just an FYI. If it does become jammed, the reverse function is handy, though since the bin slides out of the sides and the unit is permanently built-in to the "stand," you can not turn the unit upside-down to try and clear a jam. Also, the unit will not turn on without the wastebasket slid all the way in- thus keeping it from functioning without the basket and shreds going all over the floor. This is a nice addition that, except for maybe trying to clear a jam from underneath the shredder with the basket removed, is a welcome and unexpected feature. Overall I am satisfied and would recommend to a friend for light-duty shredding. I love the Hammacher Schlemmer guarantee, too. Happy Shredding! :)

This is not the quality product I have come to expect from Hammacher-Schlemmer. Even though the design allows this unit to fit in a small space, the capacity is also very limited. The most I have been able to shred at once is 3 sheets of unfolded paper, half the advertised capacity. I have to empty the bin after shredding approximately 15 sheets. There is no switch to shut off the unit when the bin fills, so the shredded paper spills over the side and also backs up into the shredding unit, causing frequent jams. When reversed, the jam is exacerbated by jamming in the teeth. And without any clear way the disassemble the unit, I have to spend an hour or more using a very small needle nose pliers to pick each individual piece of paper out of the shredder. Overall, I would not recommend this shredder to anyone.

Good thing our old shredder died so my husband can have a new one. Fathers Day is just a reason to get one now instead of later. Loved the slim line of shredder & easy to remove & empty bin with shreddings not falling all over. And it has little wheels so it doesn't scratch the floors when pulling out from under computer desk. Great!

We use the product to rid ourselves of sensitive materials to protect our privacy. It does only a few sheets at a time, and the basket must be emptied frequently to prevent jamming. It is useful to us because we wouldn't have room for a larger shredder and would have to rely on hand tearing all our statements, etc. I recommend this, as long as you realize it is not for large jobs.

If you routinely have to shred large amounts or you don't like to open the envelope to pull out just the document you want shredded, this probably isn't the shredder for you. It simply can't take a lot of bulk. If you put too much in, it just freezes up the mechanism. If you want a stylish shredder, that doesn't take up a lot of space and is relatively quiet (at least as far as shredders go) then I recommend it.
