Available only from Hammacher Schlemmer, this is the combination recorder and stereo system that preserves classic vinyl records and cassette tapes by recording them to audio CDs or converting the songs to MP3s. It faithfully transfers an LP or cassette to a digital audio CD-R or CD-R/RW, and at any time during recording you can pause to select only certain songs, turn the album or cassette over, and change albums or cassettes to make compilation recordings. Using the free downloadable Audacity software that works on Windows 8, Windows 7, XP, Vista, or a Mac, it can convert LPs and cassettes to MP3s for use on a computer or MP3 player. The system also plays 33s, 45s, 78s, and cassettes through two 3 1/2-watt speakers, and has a built-in AM/FM stereo with digital tuner and single CD playback tray, all in a footprint less than 2' sq. Two RCA inputs in the rear enable you to connect the device to another stereo system or external speakers. Includes automatic/manual track, increment control, record-level indicator, record-level control, backlit LCD, and remote control that requires two AA batteries. Needle plays LPs for up to 50 hours before requiring replacement. Plugs into AC. 9" H x 19" W x 15" D. (23 lbs.)

Good, well built product.
from Waltham, Qc. Canada
I started converting LPs to CDs the day I received it. The instructions were easy enough to make a good, error free, CD on my first attempt. There is a very small learning curve, even for a senior like myself. The quality of the CDs produced is very good, even when the LPs are not without small scratches.I would have hoped for an upgrade to provide adequate sensitivity to allow the machine to automatically recognize tracks on analogue sources, such as tapes and LPs. As it is now, one has to impose tracks manually between cuts, otherwise each side of an LP is listed as a single track.Very good, well made product.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although I just received this a few days ago, I have recorded a couple hundred songs from cassettes and records to CD. It's easy to use, works very well making compilation CDs with no audible click or other noise when pausing the tape or the CD that is being recorded. It has the appearance of quality that TEAC used to be noted for. The clear plastic dust cover works excellently with no discernible squeaking, binding or clicking from the hinges. These are the smoothest volume controls I've ever had the pleasure of tweaking. So far, I'm quite happy with this product.

Quality far beyond what i expected

I trained an 83 year old man with no experiance in recording his music to CD to use this machine in a half hour. He loves it. I told him I wanted to buy it back from him when he was finished. Before we ordered it he said he would. Now that he has it he told me he would not sell it back to me.

LP&Cassette to CD Converter
from Dallas, TX
Surprised that the unit was made by TEAC, a company that I have trusted for many years to make quality products. I have only used the tape to cd conversion function so far and it was fairly easy to use once I figured out the proper sequences. I have a TEAC real to real tape deck which I have had for over 40 years (it needs a little attention now) which has been an excellent machine and I expect this one to be as good. The description said it came with Audacity software which was not included but HS promised to send a few days ago but have not received yet. However, Audicity is downloadable off the internet which I will do as a last resort. Instructions were somewhat sketchy, but with a little trial and error, things appear to work reliably. Would be nice to have instructions on using the Audicity software once received and better instructions on how to connect unit into an existing stereo system. I have it into a phono input now and although sound is reasonably good on the built-in speakers, the sound thru existing system is blurry, so probably need to connect it to a different input which I have not done yet as my personal system wiring is difficult to access, but that is my problem, not theirs. Would be nice if the audio cables provided with the system were a bit longer - I will have to purchase longer wires in order to hide the wires and have them reach between the unit and my existing amp.

Well made by TEAC
from Mount Shasta California
Very sound structure adapts easily to aux devices .Everything works as expected.TEAC is a great brand for years now!Just a bit tricky to record a clean no glitches recording transfer . Must push the right buttons at exactly the right time .From device to computer requires a program of sorts.disappointed that I tunes will not take the information directly and convert to MP3 etc.

This is a well made unit with what appears and sounds like quality components. This is my 4th purchase of a simular type recording unit. Other company's units are cheaply built and have poor recording results especially when recording from cassettes. They all were returned to the other manufacturer due to shipping damage twice and 1 defective unit. I would recommend the TEAC unit to all. This product records from cassette and phono very nicely!

Excellent for my purposes
from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
I bought this as a space-saver. It will replace a steel stereo stand containing a dual tape deck, a CD player and a tuner/amplifier. It is also allowing me to convert scores of audiotapes and LPs to CDs to play elsewhere in the house and in the cars. If there is a downside, the transfer recordings must be made in real time. It has been great to hear these old recordings (50s,60s and 70s) again but it takes many hours/days. Of course the clicks and scratches also are recorded. What do I do with the LPs?

Very pleased with this product. Even the packaging was done correctly. Easy to set up and instrutions are very clear and easy to understand. Plays and records exactly as advertised. Well built and functional. Only negative---uses an outside AM loop antenna. Haven't seen one of those since the one on my parents Atwater Kent radio back in 1935.
