This little thing has really lived up to expectations. It does a great job transitioning from hardwood to carpet to tile. We have a few expensive orientals and it doesn't chew up the tassels like our central vacuum can. We have 2 dogs and it's done a great job keeping the pet hair & dust bunnies under control.
As far as how well it vacuums, I can say that it almost does as good a job as I do. Sometimes it goes right by a hairball 10 times before it picks it up but it does eventually get most everything.
The only thing I could say against it is, that it's not very efficient. It will take an hour to clean a room that I could vacuum in half the time. So if you were expecting guests & wanted to spruce up a room quickly, do it your self. That being said, if it takes the Roomba an hour to clean a room it's not my time that's being wasted.

I did a ton of research before buying and I have not been disappointed with my purchase. The only problem I encountered was trying to find directions on how to operate my vacuum because the disk that it came with was scratched and wouldn't play all the way through. I eventually figured out how to use the vacuum by going online for help. I have a house that is 2600 sq ft. so I have to clean in sections since the battery life isn't very long. This vacuum would be more useful in a smaller single story home. If you have two floors you will need two robots since you cant carry the robot around or it will not be able to dock on its own later. I suppose if you don't care about what it remembers you could move it from room to room, but then that defeats the purpose of this machine.

My floors have never been cleaner! Roomba cleans the carpets,rugs,hardwood and linoleum all by herself! About the only thing i have to do is lift my feet when she comes rolling by! I was very skeptical about this product but with Hammacher-Schlemmer's lifetime warranty i thought "Why Not". It really does work great and i am now a believer! Great Purchase!

I have used a romba before. I call her the "maid". She keeps the carpet tidy all week. I follow with a regular vacuum every other week. Picks up pet hair, paper clippings, small pieces of dirt, etc.

She's like that famous chicken roaster, "Set it and forget it". Push her button and off she goes.

Since my spinal fusion surgery I am not allowed to use a conventional vacuum. My husband does not like the chore and gets tired of my nagging! This is the first time my floors have all been clean at the same time! The Roomba 780 climbs up on rugs and carpets; even braided rugs. It does a great job. Hope it works for years and years! I love it!

We've had the Roomba now for about 3 weeks and so far so good! We use the robot 3 times a week on tile and hardwood floors and we can really tell the difference! Another plus of the device is that it gets under places where we rarely vacuumed before (like under beds, night tables, etc). The noise level is normal for a vacuum cleaner (I would not say that it's quiet or that you can watch TV with it operating in the same room). Very satisfied with the purchase!

Easy to use. It just needs to clean one room at a time, otherwise it takes for ever and seems to get confused. Not as clean as if vacuumed "by hand", but definitely a great tool to help keep the house clean.

I did a bad thing. I broke the cardinal rule of giving gifts to your wife. Never give appliances!! But my wife was complaining about keeping the floor under our bed clean and I won't crawl under there, so, I bought her the Roomba. Normally I would have been punched but instead she had it out of the box and was trying to set it up immediately. After charging it we turned it on and stood back and watched. It was amazing how it maneuvered around the bedroom furniture and it seemed to cover every square inch of our entire upstairs without missing anything. At one point my wife moved the docking station to another part of the room. This confused it for a few minutes but it sniffed it out and docked itself.
Now, after reading a number of reviews, I was a little hesitant to order this thing but so far I haven't been sorry I did. It's not that noisy, it cleans well and I figured out why most people who wrote reviews were giving names to their Roombas. They seem to have a mind of their own. The only thing I find might be a down side is that it doesn't play well with small rugs. It likes to fold them up. I'm now thinking about getting one for my basement.

Mostly hardwood floors, one area rug. Unit is basically a sweeper, the vacuum is quite poor and as a test failed to clean a packet of sweetener sprinkled on the floor, even after multiple passes.

It can get under most furniture, which is great. Had to basically baby-proof the unit, bundling cords and getting stuff out of the way so that the unit wouldn't get stuck on things or tangled in cables.

Again, the call out is, really, it is only able to sweep, it's not an effective vacuum.

It does require fairly regular maintenance, esp. to clean out the pet hair that gets wound up around the spindle ends. Over time I've read this can cause premature failure so regular maintenance is essential. Bin needs to be emptied almost after every use.

Always returned to base, that was fun to watch.

Ultimately I returned it because the virtual lighthouses didn't work in lighthouse mode -- intent is to have it focus on room 1 before allowing unit to move onto room 2, poor little roomba never was allowed to pass to room 2.

Battery life is not really as needed; needs to run longer before needing to return to base.
