Imported from Italy, this is the tomato press that peels, seeds, and strains fresh tomatoes to create a smooth puree for homemade sauces. Capturing the flavor of seasonal produce without the laborious process of manually blanching, skinning, and coring the fruit, this efficient Old World tool processes up to three quarts of raw tomatoes at a time by simply turning a crank. While an enclosed press and strainer separate out the waste for neat cleanup, the main chute extrudes the passata di pomodoro, the silky flesh and juice that can be caught in a bowl or a pot for transformation into a marinara or bolognese. A suction base holds the tomato press firmly in place without marring countertop surfaces. The durable press is made from food-grade, dishwasher-safe stainless steel. 12 1/4" L x 8 3/4" W x 7 1/2" D. (3 lbs.)

Finally, a new tomato press!
By She who makes tomato sauce.
from Chattaroy, WA
Years ago I bought one of these tomato presses so I could make my own tomato sauce. It had to be clamped to the counter and was difficult to clean. I really like this new model especially the suction cup that really works to keep it in one place on the counter. I have only used it once but will be using it for a long time as it seems to be really sturdy.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm glad I ordered three!
from Thunder Bay, Canada
I'm very impressed with this tomato press. For years, I made oven-roasted Romano tomato sauce, but it was very time consuming slicing and coring. As well, oven roasting in summer's heat is unbearable. The instructions for this tomato press call for blanching and slicing, but I sliced the tomatoes in half and used the course (large) holes of a box grater in a bowl. Wearing dish gloves I grated down to the skin and put the grated tomato sauce into the press to finish processing. The uncooked sauce had a super-concentrated tomato taste. Simmering for about 90 minutes produced a great sauce.Being used to screw-clamps, I was leery of the suction base, but the base is so large it didn't move or fail.Downsides: the instructions aren't the best. Fortunately the picture on the box helped with assembly. The main chute slips off when changing the bowl unless you use a very shallow bowl. Also, be aware of the positioning of the spring-loaded scrapers when re-assembling after washing the press. Insert the narrow flange first, otherwise it won't fit.I trusted Hammacher Schlemmer enough that I ordered three presses (two extra) as Christmas gifts and I'm glad I did.

Don't buy this.

I can't figure out how to put this together. It is impossible to assemble and Hammacher Schlemmer offered no help. The product is relegated to my basement as I look to buy a different model.
It works as advertised - what else is there to say?

Before we bought this machine making our own sauces was to say the least - time consuming and a mess. This machine produces a rich puree that is perfect for our needs. Can't live without it now.
The Genuine Italian Tomato Press

The product worked very well and separated the skin and seeds. I may try using it with some fruits to make a puree.
from Glen Carbon, IL
This works great especially if you have decent- sized batches of tomatoes from your garden all maturing at the same time. You do, however, have to dismantle it to clean it or else you will leave tomato remnants inside. I'd give it five stars if they could find a way to design it to be easier to clean.

I have processed tomotoes in my canner for several years now. Just got this product and it saved me so much time. I used to hand press the tomatoes into a sieve-it took forever and was hard work. This product works so well for canning tomatoes. The only drawback is the instructions for setting it up and using it were not very clear so it took me awhile to figure it out. Cleaning it was also a little complicated. But once I set it up, using it was easy. It is a well made product-stainless steel instead of plastic!
I used it as a tomato press, of course. Without instructions, it was hard to figure out how the wheel went in. Good thing they sent it in a box that had pictures on it. I do like how it separates. Does a nice clean job.
Good for sauces

Turns fresh tomatoes into a pulpy juice but it takes hard work to turn the handle and keep pushing down on the tomatoes in the hopper. It does remove all the skin and seeds, but the receptacles need to be emptied frequently and it does get pretty messy. Wear an apron. Too much work if you are only doing a few tomatoes, but helpful if you've got a lot to do
