Product Story

This is the authentic southern-style rocker that John F. Kennedy found so comfortable, he brought it along to the White House. Crafted by the same North Carolina artisans who created it in 1926, the chair was first discovered by Kennedy in the 1950s, when his physician recommended it to soothe the chronic back pain caused by his WWII injury. Kennedy’s pain improved so much that he eventually ordered more than a dozen chairs for use in the Oval Office, his private residences, and in hotels where he stayed frequently, and he was often photographed in the rocker pondering world affairs and meeting with international dignitaries. This faithful replica has the same hand-woven rattan seat and back, and its durable oak frame is steam-bent to achieve its distinctive, supportive curve. The rocker is hand-finished with a three-step staining process that locks in its rich, wood grain and protects it for use on a covered porch. 43 1/4" H x 27 1/2" W x 31 1/2" D. (30 lbs.)
