This is the diminutive Bluetooth R2D2 that projects a laser-generated keyboard onto any flat, opaque surface, providing an instant keyboard for any smartphone or tablet. Simulating the iconic droid’s ability to project holographic images, a Class I laser built into his head generates a 9 1/2"-wide x 4"-deep keyboard with 3/4" keys while an optical sensor built into his body recognizes keystrokes in three dimensions. An invisible infrared horizontal plane projected millimeters above the surface detects actual contact with “keys”—when the plane is interrupted by a finger, R2 assigns a keyboard character, passing it along to a paired device. R2’s dutiful mein and superior logic center keeps pace with typing speeds up to 350 characters-per-minute. His rechargeable battery provides up to two hours of operation from a three-hour charge using the included USB cable.
