This is the wall-mounted trap that attracts and kills mosquitoes across one-half of an acre without harmful chemicals. Only available from Hammacher Schlemmer, it mounts to a wall with an included shepherd’s hook and bracket that makes it appear more like a wall sconce, enabling it to blend seamlessly with a home’s exterior. It emits odorless carbon dioxide (the same gas people expel during respiration) and light to lure mosquitoes. Carbon dioxide is generated when ultraviolet rays from the internal fluorescent bulbs react with a titanium dioxide coating inside the trap. When the mosquitoes are drawn inside the device, an integrated fan traps the insects and sends them to a removable compartment where they die of dehydration. Unlike propane systems that require frequent refills or electrocution traps that release pathogens when an insect is killed, this model uses 3,000-hour rated UV bulbs and does not create biological agents. Plugs into AC with 10' cord. 12" H x 11" Diam. (3 1/2 lbs.)
The Wall Mounted 1/2 Acre Mosquito Trap comes with The Hammacher Schlemmer Lifetime Guarantee. If this product ever disappoints you, for any reason, you may return your Hammacher Schlemmer purchase for exchange, credit, or refund.

Every time I opened my back door this summer, a variety of every flying insect in my yard tried to make my kitchen home. Since I have hung the mosquito trap on the back porch, no more insects trying to beat us through the door every time it's opened. I'm happy with it.The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is the slotted head screw that has to be removed to open the trap for cleaning. Slotted head screws a poor choice for something that has to be removed weekly for cleaning. The slots always strip. A little larger finger turned screw would be a better design choice.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I discovered that bamboo is perfect for incubating Asian tiger mosquitos and I have a huge hedge of it in my front yard. I bought a Dynatrap to try it out and since my mosquito problem is primarily a daytime issue here for me in Santa Monica, CA I liked that this stayed on during the day as well... not to mention the only other option would have a zapping sound all day and night. The trap uses carbon dioxide to lure the mosquitos as well as the pleasant blue of the ultraviolet light. The mosquitos (and all other bugs) enter the the lightbulb area and a fan creating suction pulls the insects into the lower chamber. The screen surrounding the decorative bottom chamber and the whirling fan keep the insects from being able to get out. I did not believe the description about the insects "dehydrating" to death but sure enough within 12 to 24 hours they are so dry they start to come apart. Must be the slight heat of the bulb and the fan blowing down on the trapped insects but they are dead within hours.Be aware that this actually does lure the bugs from all around! Putting the light against a white wall for any length of time will have insects sitting all around the light on the wall waiting for a chance to get it. For this reason I suggest that you lure them away from you by putting it across the yard and do not put this close to you when you are outside. It took a couple mosquito bites for me to realize this. The trap in the bamboo is chock full of mosquitos, moths in just a couple weeks. It works so well that I bought 2 more of these! You can buy this device in black for cheaper elsewhere but it is a different design and very industrial looking... this putty color and design is exclusive to Hammacher apparently.
Works in Houston, but took a few days

After one day, I didn't think it was working at all. After three days, I started to notice less mosquitos coming in through the door when we opened it, at 6 days I spent an hour outside without bug spray and received one mosquito bite, when normally I would have been bitten 20-30 times. It's been about 1.5 weeks, and I am slowly starting to celebrate buying this item. It's beige and looks very unfashionable, so I'm trying to think of ways to be less hideous and more like the 2 acre model, but it seems to be working and that itself is beyond what I thought could be possible in mosquito-infested Houston.
