This central county has been synonymous with the wool and knitting industries since before the Middle Ages, and the world’s first knitting machine was developed in the region in the 1580s. Drawing on that long tradition, this handsome hooded cardigan is stitched using a hand-frame looming technique employed for 400 years to create an elegant texture. The wool is sourced from local British longwool sheep, whose fleece is prized for its natural luster, and the contrasting black and undyed white yarns are woven into a timeless check pattern. Though cozy enough to combat an East Midlands frost, the cardigan is not bulky and allows freedom of movement.
