The Northern Lights LED Sphere.
With shifting and undulating lights reminiscent of the Aurora Borealis,
this is the illuminated sculpture that simulates the atmospheric
phenomenon using powerful blue, white, and green LEDs projected through
a fragmented diffuser against the light-bending curve of a silvered,
borasilic glass globe. The lights blend to generate seven soothing
color combinations that appear to ripple and shift. Designed by the
IDEA-award-winning Mathmos Design Studio in Clerkenwell, England, the
internal surface is lined with dimpled chrome that produces an
ever-changing reflection, while the silvered-glass center further
reflects and bends the light. The handcrafted, mouth-blown glass
display rests on a chromed-zinc stand, and turns off and on by gently
applying pressure to the top of the dome. Visit hammacher.com to see a
