Product Story

Assembled in North Ayrshire, Scotland, this is the pocket watch that bears two centuries-old iconic motifs synonymous with northern Britain's Gaelic-speaking people--the Celtic cross and the Scottish thistle. Celtic knots have decorated Irish art since the early middle ages, such as the Book of Kells, while the Scottish thistle is thought to have been adopted as the country's national emblem in the 13th century after a misstep by a barefoot, invading Viking. Both emblems are expertly etched into the watch's zinc and pewter hunter case, which opens both in front and back to reveal its inner workings comprised of precisely calibrated brass Swiss parts. The face displays the time using Roman numerals, and it keeps time while issuing a discernable yet unobtrusive tick. The 13" plated alloy chain attaches to the crown using a lobster-claw clasp. Daily winding will ensure precise timekeeping. Presented in a velour- and satin-lined box. 2 1/2" H x 2" W x 1/2" D. (12 oz.)
