This is the handcrafted replica of the fire pit displayed at the Athletes' Village during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The unique globe-shaped design, with cutouts in the shapes of the continents, evokes the international spirit of the Games and served as a warm gathering place in the Whistler mountains for competitors from around the world. Individually crafted by Rick Wittrig, a Functional Steel Artist who learned welding and blacksmithing techniques while growing up in a Mennonite community, the fire pit is forged from heavy-gauge 1/4"-thick carbon steel. This sturdy fire pit has an iron oxide patina on its exterior and a drain at the bottom that prevents puddles and standing water. The 100% scale globe is secured 6" off the ground to a substantial 18"-diameter base. 42" H x 36" Diameter. (315 lbs.)
