Product Story

This is the bandwagon calliope inspired by the mid-19th century musical wagons that heralded the arrival of the circus. Faithful to the originals, this model’s side-mounted 38 brass organ pipes and front-mounted accordion use forced air to produce their classic tones. Updated for modern use, the vacuum created by the on-board air compressor plays the pneumatically operated bass drum and percussion instruments, including a snare drum, cymbal, triangle, two 12-note glockenspiels, two woodblocks, and a tambourine. A bass synthesizer provides a tuba sound. In concert, the bandwagon replicates the whimsical tooting, clashing, and sparkle of the past by playing 25 classic march tunes, such as Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Ain’t We Got Fun, and A Tribute To Uncle Sam from a built-in microprocessor. Typically part of a circus’ arrival parade and drawn by miniature pony, goat, or a stout dog in its day, this homage rolls on four solid metal wheels and rubber tires; its turning front axle enables pulling by hand into position at parties and celebrations. 55” L x 48” W x 36” H (128 lbs.)
