Offered only by Hammacher Schlemmer, this is the limited edition timepiece that commemorates the Douglas DC-3, renowned as the “Grand Old Lady of Aviation.” The watch is decorated with details inspired by the classic airliner, including a front profile of the plane just below the Noon hour and “1937” just above the 6 o’clock position to represent the zenith of 1930s luxury air travel. Concentric 24-hour and 60-second bezels around the unadorned hour numbers work in concert with the 60-minute and four-hour subdials to evoke the time-sensitive nature of air travel and the precision required in 1944 when the aircraft’s derivative, the C-47 Skytrain, carried Allied paratroopers over occupied Europe in WWII. Its splash-resistant, stainless steel case secures the precise Swiss quartz movement while its scratch-resistant mineral crystal protects the face. Comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
