Product Story

This is the tankard that evokes the trickery thought to have been employed by officers of the Royal Navy during the Age of Sail to dupe able-bodied men into service. Made from pewter, the 20-oz. tankard has a genuine Shilling sealed between two plexiglas bottoms, which in its time, would have signified one had unwittingly accepted an offer of coin to join the King’s Navy. Tavern owners are believed to have countered this tactic by installing glass bottoms in their tankards as a way to retain their clientelle.
