Product Story

This model kit from London's Natural History museum faithfully reproduces the original 50,000 year-old Neanderthal skull found in La Chapelle-an-Saints, France, in 1908. The kit has facial muscles and fatty areas between muscles already in place, allowing children to recreate the distinct facial features of the Neanderthal using a system of pegs and clay that can be applied and shaped using the included tools. A step-by-step illustrated manual provides helpful guidance as children learn about the hominid that lived as recently as 25,000 years ago. Molded eyeballs, ears, a nose, and pupil decals add detail to the sculpture which, when complete, resembles shaped stone without the need for firing in a kiln. The clay can be painted to resemble flesh (paint not included). A sturdy display base is included. 10" H x 10" W x 7 1/2" D (with base). (4 3/4 lbs.)
