The No-Lighter-Fluid Charcoal Grill

This charcoal grill uses a patented airflow system and newspaper, instead of lighter fluid, to prime charcoal faster and more efficiently than other grills--coals are ready in ten minutes. The unit consists of a lidded grilling basin on top of a ventilated support column with an inner flue. To use, simply insert two sheets of rolled-up newspaper into the column's inner flue, distribute charcoal in the basin, and light the newspaper through the ventilation holes in the column. The vertical flue ensures optimal airflow so that the burning paper ignites the charcoal quickly and evenly from beneath without the need for lighter fluid. Beneath the flue is an ash tray that may be filled with two liters of water to safely catch and extinguish ash that falls from the basin. The grill's 26-inch diameter base provides stability on flat surfaces, and in the unlikely event that the grill tips over, the ashtray dumps its water into the basin to douse any embers. The generous grilling area is large enough for ten to twelve servings. The column detaches from the basin for easy cleaning and ash disposal. The unit rolls smoothly on two 4" plastic wheels, and disassembles for storage or transport to a picnic site. For use as oven or barbecue. Assembly or disassembly requires a screwdriver.
