This DVD recorder/VCR combination has the fastest start-up of any recorder available, allowing you to quickly and easily transfer your home movies to more durable and permanent Digital Video Discs. Conventional DVD recorders require as long as 20 seconds before recording starts, but this recorder is ready to start recording one second after the power is turned on, for more precise recording. Transferring from video tape to DVD is as simple as inserting a VHS tape and a blank DVD-R, DVD-RAM (DVD-RAMs sold separately), or DVD-RW into the unit and pushing a single button. The video transfer process employs a virtual multi-encode system that ensures LP mode recording at 500 lines of horizontal resolution for a picture up to twice as sharp as other recorders whose LP mode recording only offers 250 lines. Unlike fragile video tape that can break, tangle, or wrinkle, digital video discs withstand the ravages of time and require less storage space (two DVD cases occupy approximately the same shelf space as a single video tape). The recorder can also record from DVD to VHS for sending home movies to friends or relatives who have a VCR but no DVD player. The dual-deck unit is also ideal for those who have a library of both DVD and VHS home videos, but who don't want to keep multiple components. Can also record from TV, and includes a timeslip feature that lets you watch a program from the beginning even while it's being recorded; also plays audio CDs. Full-function remote included.
