This is an exact replica of the rare recalled first edition of Lewis Carrol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Originally published in June of 1865, the printing quality of the artwork was deemed “disgraceful” by the book’s illustrator John Tenniel, who demanded its 2,000 copies be immediately recalled and destroyed, resulting in only 22 surviving copies. Available exclusively from Hammacher Schlemmer, the work is reissued in its inaugural form by expert literary preservationists and publishers Charles Winthrope & Sons. The novel features the same beloved and bizarre characters from Alice to the March Hare, The Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat. It has the same debossed and gilded cover as the original, all of Tenniel’s classic 19th century illustrations, and handsome red cloth bindings that match the first editions. Includes supplemental material detailing the book’s original publication and author, and a removable dust jacket that helps protect its heirloom quality. 8" L x 5 1/2" W x 3/4" D. (16 oz.)
