A familiar site aboard the Orient Express, in first-class cabins of luxury liners bound for Alexandria, or atop a Land Rover traveling across the Serengeti, this classic English luggage has been used by royalty and serious world travelers since 1897. Imported exclusively for Hammacher Schlemmer, Globe-Trotter is remarkably lightweight and recognized by its classic shape with rounded corners--its basic construction has remained largely unchanged since the turn of the century. Globe-Trotter luggage is handmade from "vulcanized fibre": a composite of recycled natural fibers, specially treated to create a pliable yet tough material. It will not deteriorate: this material actually becomes stronger as the fibers age. The double-riveted handles (one on the top and one on the side to offer choice of weight distribution and maneuverability) are made of waxed, English bridle leather. The corners are also reinforced with leather. Traditional locks made by "CHENEY OF ENGLAND" give long-lasting security.
