Since the quality of fine bed linens is very difficult to judge, yet so critical to a good night¿s sleep, the Hammacher Schlemmer Institute performed their first test for Best sheets, and chose these superb 100% Egyptian cotton sheets from Portugal. In consultation with the editor of a leading textile publication, the Institute tested various sheets on a variety of criteria: thread counts between 250 and 400, tear resistance, the ability to stand up to frequent launderings, softness, minimal shrinkage, and color fastness. The Best sheets stood out among the other contenders with a 350 thread count, and the ability to withstand an impressive 9 pounds of tearing force and 82 pounds of tensile force. Throughout laundering tests, the Best sheets shrank less than 2%, and developed only minimal pilling. After 25 washings there was no perceptible change in color, while other brands of sheets tested faded noticeably or lost their luster.
