This thermal carafe proved to be the best after rigorous testing by the Hammacher Schlemmer Institute because it maintained 86% of the peak temperature of hot water after four hours, unlike others that were only able to retain 65% of the initial temperature. Made in Wertheim, Germany, it incorporates the original design developed 93 years ago by Carl Zitzmann (a pioneer of thermal technology) for the luxurious Pullman cars of the American railroad. The double-walled carafe has a glass liner and vacuum insulation for optimal heat and cold retention; it was the only one tested that kept cool water at a constant temperature (52° F) for four hours, while other models allowed the water temperature to rise by as much as 13° F. Scoring highest for ease of use, the ergonomically-designed carafe allows you to hold the integrated handle and open the hinged lid with the same hand, the 2"-diameter opening allows ease of filling, and the 1-liter carafe is sturdy yet lightweight to allow confident pours.
