Available only from Hammacher Schlemmer, this is the sheepskin rug crafted in Iceland from the fleece of the country’s Spelsau sheep. This short-tailed European breed is regarded for a unique genetic makeup that has allowed it to flourish in harsh conditions since the first Scandinavian seafarers settled the island over 1,000 years ago. The sheepskin consists of two layers: a longer, coarser outer coat (tog) and a soft undercoat of short, fine fibers (þel). Ideal for placement on a hardwood floor or as a decorative throw over an armchair, it has a suede underside to prevent slipping.
