This is the chess set that reassigns courtroom adversaries to the jurisprudence of the chessboard. The prosecution and the defense are represented by the iconic characters of law: The king of the courtroom is a bewigged judge with his queen, blind Lady Justice. Their bishops are attorneys clutching their legal briefs, flanked by the dour-faced bailiff knights, who cross their arms at the slightest rustle in the gallery. The rooks are stacks of gavel-topped books, and the pawns are a partial jury of eight seated deliberators. The unique board mimics the raised bench and jury box of a courtroom with starting position rows rising in two steps above the chamber floor. Pieces are handcrafted from cold-cast bronze, and the board is constructed of cold-cast bronze and Italian travertine tile. 5" H x 19" W x 18" D. (25 lbs.)
