The hide undergoes a tanning process that strengthens and softens the material, resulting in a durable leather that withstands 100 M.P.H. fastballs yet is supple and smooth. The wallet's cash compartment is made of the same "perfed" leather used in the baseball gloves' lining to provide a player with a confident, textured grip. A special finishing process yields a leather with significant "pull-up,"the industry term for a brilliant burst of color when the leather is pulled tight, and a wax coating adds luster and patina.
