This is the caramelizing rod that is heated red hot in a flame and dipped into beer to enhance its flavor and texture. A unique gift for the adventurous beer lover, Bierstacheln, or “beer poking”, is believed to have originated among German blacksmiths. The food-grade stainless steel rod has a gumdrop-shaped tipped that is placed in a campfire or fireplace until it reaches 1571° F. When inserted into a glass of beer, the heated rod caramelizes residual sugars and shocks some of the carbonation out of the beer, mellowing its flavor and creating a rich, creamy head. The included wood tap handle provides a confident grip or can be replaced with one of your own from a favorite brewery. Can also be used with cocktails. 20" L x 1 1/2" diam. (1 lb.)
