Unlike some self-cleaning litter boxes that activate automatically when cats least expect it, thus startling pets and making them reluctant to return to the box, this compact unit activates at the touch of a button once cats have departed. After a cat has left the box, owners simply wait 15 to 20 minutes so litter can clump (clumping litter not included), then press a single button to start the cleaning process. A rake smoothly combs through the litter, sweeping clumps into a sealed waste receptacle lined with a disposable elastic-top plastic bag. The bag can be removed once or twice a week, closed with a plastic tie (not included), and disposed of normally, resulting in fewer odors, airborne germs, and bacteria being released into homes that can occur when litter dust escapes during traditional disposal.
