Its nylon exterior is an accurate period detail that marked the U.S. Air Force’s transition from bulkier, fleece-lined leather models to streamlined nylon models to accommodate pilots seated inside smaller, equipment-crammed jet aircraft cockpits. This jacket’s sage-green color authentically identifies it as a 2nd generation MA-1 (the earliest models were midnight blue)—the jacket transitioned into a camoflauge-friendly green shade better-suited for a downed airman’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) efforts during the Korean War.
