These are the classic military frame sunglasses that were standard-issue to United States Navy personnel for over 25 years. They are made in Boston, MA by Randolph Engineering, the optics firm that began supplying sunglasses to the U.S. Navy starting in 1984. Involving over 200 production steps, the sunglasses are based upon the nearly round P-3 frame that originated in the 1930s for wear under military gas masks, and later became a popular civilian style after WWII. The frames also became synonymous with submariners as the wearing of sunglasses was necessary to retain a sailor’s night vision when surfacing. Made from mineral crown glass for unmatched visual acuity, the lens’ Category 3 tint blocks up to 80% of light from passing through. Adjustable cushioned silicone nosepads provide a customized fit. Includes cleaning kit. Case 6 1/2" L x 2 3/4" W x 2" D. (8 oz.)
