Product Story

Perfect for staying warm while curled up with a good book, this is the lady's reading shawl made in County Kildare, Ireland. The shawl's two front panels feature the traditional wide patch pockets useful for tucking away a paperback or e-reader, as well as a pair of glasses and a notebook for recording favorite passages, and its enveloping design covers the full back, chest and upper arms while leaving the hands free to turn pages. Knit from soft merino wool, the cozy shawl is finished with fringe and incorporates historic Aran patterns, such as the tree of life cable stitch that represents the different cycles of our lives. The shawl is made by a firm whose roots can be traced back to Kate O'Shea, the first Irishwoman to commercially sell her handknit garments in 1856. Natural. One size fits most. (1 1/3 lbs.)
