It uses a strip of octenol to generate a scent that can be detected by mosquitoes from up to 100 away. A UV bulb glows steadily and LED lights flash with oscillating frequencies determined to coincide with the spectral sensitivities of many mosquito species. When mosquitoes get close to the trap, the same patented airflow system that disperses the attractant sucks the insects inside, where they are collected in a mesh catch bag or a liquid catch pan that is easy and safe to empty. The trap should be placed in a shady area of the yard as far from the home as possible (since the trap is an attractant, it is best used away from human traffic areas). The traps LCD control panel lets you turn the entire unit on or off, or program it to activate during peak mosquito hours such as mornings and evenings. Able to run for weeks uninterrupted, the unit uses AC power and is energy efficient; a 60 cord with weatherproof connectors is included. Also included is a cloth skirt that wraps around the trap to facilitate proper dispersion of the o ctenol and optimal vacuuming of insects. The octenol cartridge (sold separately) needs to be replaced after three weeks of use. Clock battery recharges automatically and stays accurate for up to three weeks without recharging.
