Of the 118-element total, 85 cubes each contain a real solid, gas, or liquid sample of an element encased in acrylic while 33 cubes contain artwork to represent those radioactive elements that are otherwise unsafe to handle or display, such as polonium, fermium, and plutonium. The set also includes trace samples of radon and radium as well as uranium, all safely contained within glass ampules inside their acrylic cubes, which fully shields the very low levels of radtioactivity emiited by the three elements.
