Product Story

This strandkorb, or beach basket, was originally invented by a basketmaker from Rostock, Germany in 1882 for a woman from nearby Warnemünde who wanted to combat her rheumatism while vacationing on the beaches of the windswept Baltic coast. Developed into a two-person model the following year, this beach chair's growing popularity has resulted in its widespread use today in European patios, gardens, beach, and ski resorts. Made of weatherproof vinyl wicker secured to a fir frame with durable corrosion-resistant steel hardware, this chair has a rounded movable bonnet that reclines 45°, allowing you to bask fully in the sun, or, when fully-upright, provides protection from hot noonday heat. It has a thick two-person 3 1/4"cushioned seat with two neck roll pillows, two wooden foot rests that slide under the seat when not in use, and two hinged side tables that will accommodate a drink and a snack or book. Handles located on either side allow you to position the chair as you desire. Imported. 64" H x 50" W x 36" D (190 lbs.) <
