The Genuine Brown Betty English Teapot

This is the English-made ceramic teapot—known affectionately as “Brown Betty”—that produces a superior cup of Britain’s beverage of choice. The teapot is handmade by expert craftsmen in Tunstall, Staffordshire, who use the same red clay first discovered in this area in 1695 to produce ceramic with superior heat retention. Formed into a rotund shape that allows tea leaves freedom to swirl, the Brown Betty is renowned for its ability to extract more flavor with less bitterness. As for the kettle’s nickname, the Brown comes courtesy of a Rockingham glaze. Betty, legend has it, refers generally to a workshop operative who also had duties at the sales counter.
