Product Story

This is the classic chocolate-coated Baumkuchen from one of Germany’s oldest bakeries, featuring the trademark internal ring pattern that, when cut, ensures a unique presentation. The word "baum" means tree in German and the rings, created from three layers of thin, crepe-like batter brushed on and baked on a spit over an open fire, resemble the growth rings on a crosscut tree. Believed to have originated in 1841, the cake's name derives from an old German saying: "King of the cakes and the cake of the Kings." Each time- and labor-intensive cake is made by hand at a bakery in Munich family-owned and operated for five generations. Imported. (10 1/2 oz.)
