The yarn of ancient Incan nobility, royal baby alpaca is the finest wool selected from choice Andean alpacas. Royal baby alpaca represents .1% of all alpaca fiber produced in the world, with only six tons available annually (compared to 5,000 annual tons of cashmere). Whereas standard baby alpaca wool is 22 microns wide, royal baby alpaca wool is a mere 19 microns wide (the average human hair is about 50 microns wide), making it as soft as cashmere, yet the fiber maintains superior heat retention to ward off the chill of the high Andes, resulting in a sweater that provides comfortable three-season warmth.
